New Teacher Center - Wisconsin

(NTC-WI)

We bring guidance, training and support to school districts as they develop new teacher induction programs. NTC-WI a regional office of New Teacher Center (NTC) in Santa Cruz,  provides exceptional training and support programs that dramatically improved retention rates while accelerating the practice of new teachers.  NTC is funded through grants and by school districts with which it works.

The NTP-WI formed a focused affiliate program, the Dane County New Teacher Project (DCNTP) in August 2002. Currently sixteen school districts-Belleville, Cambridge, Deerfield, DeForest, Evansville, Madison, Marshall, McFarland, Monona Grove, Mount Horeb, Oregon, Stoughton, Sun Prairie, Verona, Waterloo, and Waunakee-work collaboratively on teacher induction through this consortium. The  DCNTP is funded by the New Teacher Center at UCSC and grants from the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction, and the school districts in the consortium.

The DCNTP has a strong infrastructure that seeks input and guidance from teachers, administrators, professional organizations and agencies while building a strong partnership with the University of Wisconsin, Madison. UW's Department of Curriculum and Instruction gathered baseline data in the participating districts for a study of mentor effectiveness, while UW's School of Education offers a ten-credit Mentor Program of Advanced Study, including four credits from the completion of NTC-WI mentor training curriculum. For more information on the Program of Advanced Study, please visit UW Program of Advanced Study

In addition, the New Teacher Center - WI has formed three new consortiums:  Cardinal Stritch University which currently has ten districts, UW-River Falls which currently has eight districts and Kimberly which has four districts.

New Teacher Center - WI offers seamless professional development for mentors through a series of trainings from NTC that have been adapted for Wisconsin Teacher Standards and are offered at various locations statewide. Those trainings include: Instructional Mentoring; Coaching and Observation Strategies for Working with Beginning Teachers; Designing and Presenting Professional Development; Analyzing Student Work to Guide Instruction; Coaching in Complex Situations; Mentoring for Equity; Role of the Principal and Mentor Assessment for Growth and Accountability. Credit is available for NTP-WI's two-day workshops.
