Creating and Facilitating Meetings

That Promote Mentor

and New Teacher Development

Background

The New Teacher Center-Wisconsin (NTP-WI) and the Dane County New Teacher Project (DCNTP) offer this unique opportunity to train those who work with those newest to the teaching profession. The NTP-WI is affiliated with The New Teacher Center at the University of California, Santa Cruz. The NTP-WI, in learning from the Santa Cruz model, has adapted much of the California training and revised it so that it strongly reflects the Wisconsin Teacher Standards and supports districts as they meet the requirements of PI34.

Content

Mentors who work with beginning teachers find themselves in a new professional leadership role - one that requires learning new skills and examining challenges of practice. As we create a supportive environment and learning opportunities for new teachers, it is important that we also create a collaborative learning environment for mentors to develop skills, gain knowledge, and problem-solve issues of mentoring. Participants in this one-day workshop will engage in a real-time staff meeting model, with stop-action briefing along the way.

Training Topics

  • Learning a Conceptual Framework for Meeting Design Creating a Scope and Sequence for the Curriculum of Mentoring

  • Experiencing a Meeting Design that Promotes Professional Development
